Many health food stores and supplement manufacturers claim that certain herbal supplements can increase sexual potency and are safer than prescription medications. However, there is little scientific research to back these claims.
Most herbs used to treat erectile dysfunction and enhance fertility and virility aren’t well-studied or tested, and can interact with medications. Some can even cause side effects.
Ginkgo biloba
Gingko biloba is a plant that contains compounds called flavonoids and terpenoids. These compounds are antioxidants, which help to neutralize harmful particles in the body known as free radicals. These free radicals damage DNA and contribute to heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's disease. Gingko biloba also acts as a vasodilator, improving blood flow by dilating blood vessels. It can also boost oxygen delivery to the brain and reduce high blood pressure.
Research on ginkgo biloba and its effect on sexual desire is limited, but some studies have shown that it can improve libido in men by enhancing the action of neurotransmitters that stimulate libido and decreasing anxiety that dampens arousal. It can also increase pelvic blood flow and enhance erectile function.
If you're taking a dietary supplement containing ginkgo biloba, be sure to choose products from reputable brands and to avoid overdosing. Taking too much can lead to headaches, dizziness, and increased bleeding risk. It can also interact with certain medications, including antidepressants and anticoagulants.
Ginseng
Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is renowned for boosting thinking, concentration and memory, and as an effective natural energy enhancer and stress reducer. It also improves cardiovascular health, boosts immune system function, counters oxidative damage and prevents cancer. In addition, it may increase libido and enhance sexual performance.
North American ginsenosides Rg1 raises testosterone levels in rats, and increases the brain's uptake of several neurotransmitters involved in libido, including dopamine and acetylcholine. Studies have also found that ginseng promotes sperm production and increases the number of healthy erections. It also relieves psychogenic erectile dysfunction (ED).
In one study, researchers gave 77 men who experienced mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction either a placebo or a ginseng-based supplement that contained horny goat weed and L-arginine. Those who took the ginseng reported improvements in sexual desire, satisfaction and orgasms. The ginseng also improved the quality of their erections and increased their endurance during sexual intercourse. This herb is a key ingredient in many herbal sex tonics, including Virility V2 Ajmali.
Tribulus terrestris
Tribulus terrestris is a plant that is known for its ability to promote health and sexual function in men. It has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, especially in China and India. Its root and fruit are used medicinally for a variety of reasons, including to enhance libido, keep the urinary tract healthy, and reduce swelling (1).
The active compounds in Tribulus are called saponins, and they are responsible for many of its health benefits. It has been used for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in men and women; to improve sexual pleasure in both men and women; to treat kidney disorders, such as a painful condition called Bright’s disease; to increase urine flow (a diuretic); to treat gastrointestinal problems, such as pain, gas, and diarrhea; and to treat heart and circulatory system problems, such as chest pain, high blood pressure, and low energy (2, 3).
Some studies suggest that Tribulus may help athletes improve their body composition by increasing muscle and decreasing fat. It has also been shown to reduce the risk factors for heart disease, including high cholesterol and high blood glucose levels.
Active X
The herb yohimbe (Pausinystalia yohimbe) is an adaptogenic herb that helps to reduce stress and improves sexual response. It also promotes blood flow to the genitals, which enhances sexual desire and performance in men. It also has aphrodisiac properties and may help increase testosterone levels, which can boost libido in both women and men.
Horny goat weed (Epimedium) is another popular herbal medicine for erectile dysfunction. It contains icariin, which has PDE5 inhibitory properties similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra. Horny goat weed also improves sperm motility and increases the Qurs Mumsik jadid.
Shilajit is another herbal medicine for man power that contains humid and fulvic acids. These acids help to boost sperm motility and libido in men by improving the quality of sperm. It also has antioxidant, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties that help prevent infections.
