Herbal Alternatives to Improve Erectile Function Without Medication

Erectile dysfunction can be treated through various natural means, including exercise, diet and herbal supplements; red ginseng and pomegranate juice have both been reported to work successfully.

These herbs increase nitric oxide production and blood flow to the penis, as well as offering other health benefits. If you suffer from certain chronic health conditions, however, these herbs may not be appropriate for you.

Mondia whitei:

Herbal supplements often claim to treat ED, but research on them is often limited. Certain herbs such as saffron and Tribulus terrestris can increase levels of nitric oxide in your body which helps widen blood vessels for improved vascular flow; however these herbs can have adverse side effects, including shivering, headache and nausea - so always consult your physician first when trying a new herbal remedy.

Mondia whitei is a perennial plant often used as an aphrodisiac or to increase libido. It contains alkaloids, saponins, reducing sugars, phenolics, cyanogenic glycosides, polyamides and phytosterols that may all play a part in contributing to its effects.

Plant's aphrodisiac properties could be explained by its ability to increase levels of NO and cGMP - substances which relax smooth muscles - in one study a crude ethanolic extract of Mondia whitei root significantly increased NO production in rabbit cavernosal tissues; however, its effect did not extend to cGMP production, suggesting there may be an aphrodisiac threshold dose at which point its benefits cease.

Use of this plant has led to overharvesting, placing it at risk of becoming extinct in its native habitat. Researchers have suggested more stringent conservation strategies be put in place in order to maintain its horticultural, nutritional and medicinal value; strengthening ancient cultural practices that ensure sustainable management; encouraging cultivation in regions conducive to its herbal medicine for man power.

Ginkgo biloba:

Ginkgo biloba has long been used as an herbal treatment for various medical issues, and more recently as an aphrodisiac to increase sexual desire and performance. Packed with antioxidants that neutralize free radicals that damage cells, Ginkgo can also improve blood flow and nitric oxide production in the penis.

Unfortunately, herbal remedies for ED are unregulated by the FDA so it may be hard to ascertain exactly what's contained within each supplement; many contain fillers or additional ingredients, with strength or purity varying depending upon each batch produced batch.

Studies have suggested that Ginkgo Biloba can help men taking antidepressant medications treat their erectile dysfunction; however, more research needs to be conducted. Furthermore, interactions may occur with certain medications resulting in increased bleeding or headaches as potential side effects.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng), is known for enhancing libido while increasing blood flow to the penis. Damiana (Tinna frutescens) was traditionally taken by Mayans as an aphrodisiac and circulatory stimulant; it works by increasing arousal, improving erections, increasing sexual satisfaction and stimulating release of nitric oxide which widens arteries to increase blood flow to increase sexual satisfaction.

Cordyceps:

Cordyceps mushrooms are truly remarkable creatures; this parasitic fungus grows on caterpillars, eventually devouring them! Also referred to as the "caterpillar fungus," Nepalese farmers first recognized its benefits after witnessing livestock eating it and experiencing increased sexual vitality as well as increased energy and stamina levels from taking in this nutritious food source.

One reason cordycepin may be effective as an herbal treatment for erectile dysfunction is because it increases testosterone levels, supporting both sexual desire and libido. Furthermore, cordycepin promotes blood flow to the penis through activating nitric oxide; further research needs to be completed in order to ascertain if cordycepin indeed improves erections.

Cordycepin may help treat ED because it contains vasodilation properties, meaning it helps dilate blood vessels. Adenosine and cordycepin both increase cAMP levels - messenger molecules which stimulate cell expansion leading to an erection.

Cordyceps supplements may provide relief to men suffering from erectile issues, but only use products of unani medicine for men. Many supplements aren't regulated as rigorously as prescription drugs; therefore they could contain chemicals which may be dangerous. Consult your doctor about any herbal treatments you plan to take as they will provide advice regarding dosage and safety concerns.

Ashwagandha:

Ashwagandha is an evergreen plant used as a medicinal herb in traditional Ayurved medicine for millennia. It contains multiple bioactive compounds, including withanolides that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, commonly promoted for stress and anxiety relief, sleep improvement, male fertility support and athletic performance improvement.

Ashwagandha supplements typically include either root extract, leaf extract or both; commonly prescribed dosage of 300 mg daily is typically advised.

There are various herbs that may help treat erectile dysfunction, but not all are suitable for everyone. Yohimbine may cause side effects including high blood pressure and rapid heart rate while red ginseng and horny goat weed may interact with certain medications so it is wise to consult a health professional prior to taking these herbal treatments.

Erectile Dysfunction, commonly referred to as "ED", can often be traced back to underlying conditions that disrupt blood delivery to the penis. Sometimes this symptoms of serious health conditions like vascular disease or neurological conditions. Furthermore, some men feel embarrassed talking with their physician about it which delays diagnosis and treatment of their symptoms.

Herbal remedies for ED include ginseng, horny goat weed and maritime pine bark; however, more research needs to be conducted into whether these herbs can actually relieve symptoms in humans. Furthermore, many herbal supplements remain unregulated and could contain contaminants or ingredients which could sex timing medicine.
