Effective Herbal Medicines to Treat Low Sperm Count and Improve Fertility

Sperm count can be affected by many different factors, but some herbs and dietary changes can help increase fertility. Such herbs can reduce oxidative stress in the testes and boost testosterone production.

Recent meta-analyses demonstrated that herbal medicines significantly improved several aspects of sperm parameters, including semen volume, concentration and normal morphology. They also reduced inflammation factors and DNA fragmentation.

Vitamin D:

Vitamin D plays an integral part in fertility. According to recent studies, increasing Vitamin D and Folic acid intake was shown to improve sperm count among men with low sperm counts; however, such supplements should not replace treatments for any potential health conditions that could be contributing to low sperm counts.

Vitamin E is an integral nutrient for fertility. It protects sperm against damage while increasing motility and morphology; according to one study, men taking vitamin E supplements for three months saw increases in fertilization rates and total sperm counts.

Shilajit is another herbal supplement to increase sperm count and motility, boasting antioxidant properties. One experimental study showed that taking 7.5 g of Shilajit per day for three months improved both count and motility of sperm in both groups of participants; researchers attribute this improvement to an increase in seminal plasma-soluble Fas, possibly caused by upregulation of 24-hydroxylase gene in testis.

Ashwagandha:

Ashwagandha can assist in relieving stress, one of the primary contributors to low sperm count. Furthermore, this herb increases semen production and improves fertility by balancing testosterone levels; additionally it has anti-ageing properties which improve sperm quality by increasing blood flow to reproductive organs as well as decreasing inflammation while enhancing fertility and correcting any potential ovulation herbal medicine for nerve pain.

Study results with 44 oligospermic males revealed that ashwagandha root extract significantly improved sperm counts and ejaculate volumes, thanks to its antioxidant activity which protects cells against cell damage.

Exclusion criteria were low total sperm count, congenital abnormalities, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, severe hepatic or renal insufficiency or any conditions which may reduce testicular functioning.

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is another herbal medication proven to increase sperm count and motility, thanks to its antioxidant properties that protect against oxidative stress caused by heavy metal toxicity such as arsenic, cadmium mercury and lead. Furthermore, Tongkat ali also increases testosterone and LH levels which helps raise sperm counts further.

Fenugreek:

Natural remedies and dietary changes that can increase sperm count include drinking citrus fruits and consuming antioxidants like vitamins C and CoQ10; herbs like fenugreek and saw palmetto may also aid fertility by improving testosterone levels, reducing testicle swelling and treating prostate issues.

Diet is essential to increasing sperm count and libido. Consuming a wide variety of foods will ensure you receive all of the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids your body requires for good sperm health. Be wary of processed and fast foods which often contain unhealthy fats and excess sodium; rest and exercise are also key components.

Avoiding environmental toxins like pesticides and BPA are also crucial in protecting sperm health; Folate is one of these vital nutrient that plays a significant role in increasing both motility and count; found in foods such as green leafy vegetables, legumes and fortified cereals.

Mucuna pruriens

Mucuna pruriens is an herb containing levodopa (L-dopa), an essential neurochemical for producing dopamine, the brain chemical which influences mood. Mucuna pruriens has been shown to alleviate Parkinson's symptoms as well as anxiety and depression; further research should confirm its benefits on herbal treatment for high cholesterol.

Mucuna pruriens seeds contain numerous alkaloids, including mucunine, mucunadine and mucunadinine, along with other substances such as b-sitosterol, coumarins, vernolic acid and flavonoids - providing the seeds as an excellent source of antioxidants.

Ujowundu et al.'s study demonstrated that methanolic extracts of F. praecox roots had higher antioxidant activity than Mucuna pruriens seed extracts in terms of TFC, DPPH, ABTS and DNA damage protection assays. Furthermore, F. praecox roots provided greater PDE5 inhibition activity compared with Mucuna pruriens seeds - supporting their use as an herb treatment option in male infertility treatments.
